Majestic Jaipur – Part 1

The royal cuisine, amazing architecture, festivals and huge forts are enough to make Jaipur city famous among the tourists traveling to Rajasthan.

Royal City Jaipur

It was an official tour and I spent my weekend for exploring the city. It was a month of April and May; the weather was too hot. Being a travel freak, I wanted to beat the heat and start my journey from the first day. I reached Jaipur at 10:30 PM from Double Decker train which starts from Delhi Sarai Rohilla. Accommodation was not a huddle for me; since, Red Fox Hotel was already booked by my company. I reached Jaipur on Sunday night and decided to visit few places on Monday morning before I go to work (Night Shift). Next day, I woke early in the morning and made myself ready for exploring the pink city. I am going to give a brief description about the places visited by me during my stay in Jaipur.

Hotel RedFox

Accommodation is one of the major parts of our traveling so I am going to start with Red Fox. It’s a Lemon Tree’s budget hotel in Jaipur with all the basic amenities. Nice and clean rooms with a Restaurant. This hotel is situated on JLN Marg away from the hassle-bustle of the city.

Mode of Transport

Jaipur city has all types of transport services available for the tourists. You can book OLA or UBER cabs as per your choice. Uber is also giving a Moto (Bike) service for solo riders which is really cheaper mode of transport in comparison to other. Government buses and Auto Rickshaws are also available in an ample amount. I personally used all mode of transport for my travel except the buses.

Let’s start with the places which I visit during my stay in Jaipur.

Jaipur Zoo

It was my first day in Jaipur and I had a half day to do some sightseeing. So, I picked places near to the hotel to explore. Zoo is just next to Albert Hall and near to main city. There were very fewer animals in the zoo, as most of them were shifted to a newly built Nahargarh Biological Park. This zoo is divided into two sections and both are opposite to each other. There is nothing special here and can be skipped.

Nahargarh Biological Park

This is newly built park where most of the animal are kept. It has some good varieties of animals and they are kept in their surrounding where they can easily roam around. The best part of this park is that animals are not caged and you can easily have a clear view of them. If you are visiting with family or kids, you must visit this place. It is easily accessible as it’s on the highway.

Nahargarh Fort

If you are in Jaipur, I will recommend visiting this Fort. Nahargarh can be covered in a day with Jaigarh and Amer fort. Nahargarh is at height; so it gives a good view of Jaipur from the top. Best time to visit this fort is either sunrise or sunset. There is a Wax Museum and  Sheesh Mahal in the fort which has a separate entry which costs 500 plus. As per them, there are around 30 plus wax statues of the celebrities around the world and in Sheesh mahal you will find all stuff made of mirror and you will walk on the mirror flooring. I didn’t prefer to go inside as they didn’t allow photography. There are eating options inside, one is Padao restaurant and other one is food court.

Jaigarh Fort

If history excite you, this fort is also a must visit in Jaipur. Being at height, this fort also gives a good view. The famous attractions of this fort are the rain water harvesting system and the biggest Canon – Jaivan. This canon was only used once for trial not for a war. Jaigarh is easily accessible with public or personal transport and you can take your vehicle up to Jaivan Canon. There is a nominal entry fee to this fort.

Amber Fort

Amber is one of the famous attractions in Jaipur and is worth seeing. One can either walk to the fort or opt for an Elephant ride to the fort. Plenty to explore here, as it’s a huge fort more than your expectation. There is a light and sound show which I heard is best but I didn’t get a chance to see it. I had a less time so I didn’t explore this fort much.

Jantar Mantar

Jantar Mantar is a perfect example of the knowledge/mind used by ancestors in that era. It is a place where permanent instruments were made during king’s rule and these instruments are so perfect to the calculate the time with the help of Sun. Hire a guide and listen to him carefully to get the proper knowledge of this amazing architecture. This place is just opposite to City Palace and can be covered in a day with City Palace.
